Excursions and Tours

The Congress is pleased to provide to participants and accompanying people some English-language social tours and activities during URSI 2021 GASS. Those tours give the opportunity to discover Rome and some of its cultural attractions. The following proposals consist of a series of tour programmes that will concern the major touristic attractions in and outside Rome.

A minimum of participants is required for each tour, if the minimum is not reached by June 1st, 2021, your tour could be cancelled for lack of participation. You will be then assigned another tour if available or, otherwise, you will be reimbursed. No exchange or reimbursement will be possible after June 1st, 2021.

IMPERIAL FORUMS, THE ROMAN FORUM AND THE COLOSSEUM 

August 28th, 2020 and September 1st, 2021  

Departure at 10h00 – Duration:  3 hrs

Meeting Point:  Piazza d’Aracoeli, 3 – 10’ before departure

Minimum 20 Persons – Maximum 30 Persons
Rate per person incl. English Guide and earphones: € 67,00

The road which departs from Piazza Venezia to reach the Colosseum crosses the entire area of the Imperial Forums and the Traiano Market, which constitutes the largest archaeological city in the world.  The Roman Forum was the center of life of the Ancient Rome, evidenced by the many remains of triumphal arches, temples and basilicas. The itinerary ends at the Colosseum, the most famous Roman monument, opened in 80 A.D. 

Roman Jewish Walking Tour 

August 29th, 2021  

Departure at 15h30 – Duration:  2,5 hrs

Meeting Point:  Via Catalana, Jewish Museum main entrance – 10’ before departure  

Minimum 20 Persons – Maximum 30 Persons

The Jewish community of Rome is the oldest Jewish community in the Diaspora. Jews first came to Rome from Jerusalem in 161 BC asking for protection from the Romans against the Syrian king, Antiochus. Since then, they have never left the city. 

A visit starts from the Jewish Museum and Main Synagogue and continues into the narrow and lively streets of the Ghetto district. 

Cults and Mysteries of Underground Rome 

August 31st, 2021

Meeting Point:  Basilica of San Clemente main entrance – 10’ before departure

Minimum 20 Persons – Maximum 30 Persons

Rome is a city full of underground secrets, passages very interesting: this tour is focused on places of the Caelian Hill that “hide” mysteries and traditions of the Ancient city as the Temple of Mithras under the Basilica of S. Clement, a cult that had its origins in Persia and was brought to Rome in the 1C BC by the Roman legions posted in the Eastern provinces and the Roman houses discovered under the Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo, particularly interesting for their wall paintings. 

VATICAN MUSEUMS AND SISTINE CHAPEL 

August 31st or September 1st, 2021 

Departure at 11h30 – Duration:  3 hrs

Meeting Point: Vatican Museums main entrance 10’ before departure

Minimum 20 Persons – Maximum 30 Persons
Rate per person incl. English Guide and earphones: € 68,00

The Vatican Museums, one of the largest and most impressive museum complex in the world, contain hundreds of works of art commissioned and collected by the Popes over the centuries and created by the most famous artists in history. The Vatican Museums contain masterpieces of painting, sculpture and other works of art collected by the popes through the centuries.
